Who This Is For
You’re accountable for success in a complex environment. You might be:
- A CEO or founder of a medium-sized business.
- A senior divisional executive in a large corporation.
Why This Work Matters
You want a safe and intellectually challenging space to think through your business challenges and opportunities. Your spouse is tired of hearing about it, your therapist can’t help with the practicalities, and your trainer wants you to focus on your breathing. Leadership is lonely, and having an executive coach steeped in strategy, leadership and personal development best practices can be invaluable.
“I cannot thank you enough for the immense strategic value you have added to my business, leadership, and personal life. Everything from your leadership coaching, care, concern, and your weekly Sunday morning insights—you continue to touch the entrepreneur’s mind, heart, and soul.”
– Anthony Govender, CEO and Founder, ASI Group
How I Work With You
I blend my leadership experience with insights from extensive learning in strategy, leadership, and personal mastery, along with supporting my founder and executive clients as they navigate the complexities of their businesses.
“Karl brings to executive coaching the unique aspect of having lived both the light and dark side of corporate executive life. He couples this with a deep, insightful approach to holistic coaching.”
– C-Suite Executive
Some clients have worked with me for years, allowing me the privilege of witnessing strategies evolve and consolidate over time.
“Karl has been invaluable to me as a Founder and Executive. He has helped me navigate hard situations about people, operations, strategy, and how to work with and manage my co-founders. One of the things I value most is Karl’s coaching session notes and the recommended readings, books, and blogs that he shares.”
– Thapelo Motlogeloa, COO and Co-Founder, Pele Group
The Process
1. Understanding Your Leadership Journey
Our first three or four sessions focus on:
- Understanding your personal and leadership journey. How we lead is shaped by our history, but we often don’t pay it sufficient attention. This will help you better understand how your strengths and blind spots influence your leadership effectiveness.
- Reviewing your strategy documents and operational plans, ensuring our conversations are rooted in your organisational context and culture.
2. Ongoing Support Tailored to You
We agree on a programme of support that works for you:
- Monthly meetings are typical.
- Some long-standing clients meet quarterly to consolidate and test their thinking before Board and review meetings.
What You Gain
Our sessions provide a creative and challenging partnership in which you can explore your key strategic and operational challenges. They are a place in which you can test your thinking and generate more robust solutions.
- You get to explore strategy with an experienced business leader and coach.
- I ask the challenging questions that others in your organisation may feel that they can’t. These questions often result in new perspectives and a refined, more effective approach.
- You can test, explore and strengthen your plans before taking them into the business.
- I spend 600 hours a year reading the best work in strategy, leadership, sales and customer service, business histories and memoirs, case studies and work from the worlds of psychology, negotiation, and decision-making science. This gives you access to best-in-class mental models, frameworks, and instructive examples carefully curated to expand your possibilities.
- You are lifted out of the day-to-day noise and returned to first principles strategic thinking.
- Explore new perspectives – in addition to my extensive reading, I have the advantage of spending every week in several different businesses and sectors, giving me perspectives that aren’t readily available from inside your business.
Think of it as leadership therapy. You get consistent access to an experienced business leader and coach to help you be your best.
